Mount Olive defeated Virginia Union 81-76 in the final game of day two of the 44th Annual Mount Olive College Pickle Classic Friday at Kornegay Arena. The win gives the Trojans a 2-0 mark in the Pickle Classic for the ninth in the last 10 years and 15th time in the last 18 years.

 

Holloman was named to the All-Tournament Team, along with Trojan teammates Kendrick Easley and Craig Hayes. Branden McDonald of Virginia Union, R.D. Dowdy of Barton and Danny Sanders of Mars Hill also earned All-Tournament honors.

Wesley Simmons led five Virginia Union players in double figures with 16 points. Brandon Byerson hit a three-pointer at the final buzzer to finish with 14 points and five assists. McDonald added 12 points and four assists and Ryan King finished with 10 points. Braxton Byerson had all of his 11 points and 11 rebounds in the first half, but sat out most of the second half after picking up his fourth foul.

Virginia Union opens its home play Saturday as the Panthers to take on Fayetteville State. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
