PORT ST. LUCIE, FL –Virginia Union University’s Cory Claytor was selected to participate in the Men’s Independent Division of the 2008 PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship. The 22ND annual event was held at the PGA Golf Club (Wannamaker Course) in Port St. Lucie, FL.

RICHMOND, VA – The 2008 football schedule released by the VUU department of athletics is compromised of 10 regular-season contests, including 3 non-conference match-ups.   In addition, this year’s schedule will feature three opponents (East Stroudsburg, Fort Valley & Chowan) that the Panthers we be facing for the first time in the history of its football program.

VUU Men’s Tennis Places Fourth at CIAA Championships
ETTRICK, VA – The Virginia Union University men’s tennis team placed fourth at the 2008 CIAA Championships. The Championships were held April 16-19 on the campus of Virginia State University. VUU’s Gil Hernandez recorded a team-high third place finish in the #2 singles competition.

ETTRICK, VA- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Softball Coaches Association has selected this year's Softball All-CIAA and Rookie Teams.  VUU’s Danielle Brown was the only Lady Panther to be recognized by the association.

VUU Places 6th at 2008 CIAA Golf Championships
FORT LEE, VA – The Virginia Union University golf team placed 6th at the CIAA Golf Championships held at the Cardinal Club in Fort Lee, VA. The Panthers posted an overall score of 780 (+204) in the two day event.  VUU was led by Cory Claytor who finished 16th overall, posting a total individual score of 157 (+13).

VUU’s Robbins Announces Retirement, Names Successor
RICHMOND, VA - In a press conference earlier this afternoon, Dave Robbins stepped down as the head coach of the VUU men’s basketball team after 30 seasons. Robbins, who has two years remaining on his contract, will continue to work in VUU’s athletic department as the Senior Administrator for Athletic Development.

Men's Track and Field
The VUU Department of Athletics recognizes Marquis Davis as the Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of July 2008.  During the 2007-08 academic year Marquis captured 3 CIAA Individual Championships, in addition to being a member of the 2007 CIAA Eastern Division Championship football team.  He won the following individual championships:  Indoor Track and Field -Shot Put; Outdoor Track and Field- Shot Put and Discus
